NPI MANUFACTURING ENGINEER

NPI Manufacturing Engineer | Full-time | Coventry, UK

The Opportunity

You are an experienced engineer with mechanical and/or electromechanical assembly expertise. With a track record of creating engineering development processes as well as new product introduction processes, you have the ability to assess, plan and drive projects through to completion. Working very much on your own initiative you will confidently identify requirements while developing detailed plans in collaboration with customers. You will be used to working with high level objectives within an innovative technology environment and working very much collaboratively with both customers and colleagues.

Objectives

* Deliver internal facility based projects to specification and on time as well as budget

* Liaise with customers to provide technical support and exceed their expectations

* Work closely with both the Sales and Operations functions of Productiv to ensure concurrent and best practices are deployed effectively throughout the organisation

* Take responsibility for project deliverables and meet or exceed project timing targets

* Deliver work in a timely manner, to a level of quality suitable to meet and exceed both internal and external customer expectations

* Be a positive force for engagement and problem solving within the engineering team

Activities & Responsibilities

* Conduct manufacturing feasibility reviews of products throughout their product life cycle

* Facility, equipment and process development/specification of manufacturing and assembly processes for new products

* Creation of new product introduction documentation to support right first time launch of products including DfA, DfM, PFMEA, Control plan etc.

* Produce specifications for manufacturing and assembly equipment while making recommendations for procurement

* Process development for manufacturing and assembly sequencing for new programs

* Plant and process layout for new products and variants

* Read, interpret and analyse supplied drawings and CAD models

* Work closely with Cost Estimators and Engineering team to allow work throughput

* Generation of reports as required for Project and Management meetings.

* Revision control of information supplied and maintenance of Bills of Process etc.

* Support production preparation to ensure smooth production ramp-up.

* Develop, guide and train both experienced and graduate engineers with a view to building a solid engineering department

* Document process and engineering know-how to benefit future projects

* Support project planning activities with subject matter expertise and experience

Specific Skills

* Experience of working within a mechanical and/or electromechanical assembly environment.

* Experience of working within different sized organisations – OEM, Tier 1 or SME

* Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

* Confident with working on own initiative

* Excellent IT literacy, being a competent user of MS Office

* Competent user of Solidworks or alternative 3D CAD package

* Ability to hold and maintain relationships at all levels with customer and suppliers

* Understanding and knowledge of TS16949 and APQP within the automotive sector

* Engineering degree or equivalent

* Use of risk mitigation tools to control risks within projects and prioritise risk to be mitigated

ADVANCED MANUFACTURING ENGINEER

Advanced Manufacturing Engineer | Full-time | Coventry, UK

The Opportunity

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer with a proven track record in the Automotive or Aerospace Industry. You will support the NPI process of low carbon and green technologies. The ability to plan low and medium volume production facilities is a must as you will guide an expanding team of Project Engineers in the design of Modular Assembly Cells.

Objective

You have the ability to generate Manufacturing Strategies for a range of customer products. This includes capturing prototype Assembly Sequences, refining the processes and designing a facility that can accommodate a range of products at varying production volumes. The introduction of new technologies presents the need for unique assembly and test requirements. The role requires someone with a natural problem solving ability. In addition to the technical requirements, the planning activities must take into account the commercial constraints of environmental targets, quality targets, budget, resource, space and lead time.

Experience

You will be experienced in coordinating a cross functional team while liaising with customers and equipment suppliers. You must have the ability to balance an attention to detail with a high level of report writing and presentation skills. You should be able to confidently present your findings and propose solutions with all levels of external and internal colleagues.

Knowledge:

You should be able to manipulate 3D CAD Models with the ability to interpret 2D CAD Drawings for critical and significant characteristics. Knowledge of the following industry techniques are essential: APQP, DFM/DFA, PFMEA, Control Plans, Build Records. It is preferable that you have some knowledge of the design and construction of Power Train products such as Engines, Gearboxes, Electric Motors, KERS etc.

Core Responsibilities (Technical)

* Capture the build sequence of a Customer’s Prototype Assembly.

* Generate Standard Operating Procedures.

* Capture Care Points, Quality Issues & Tooling Requirements.

* Assign standard times to production activities.

* Generate Process Flow Diagrams.

* Create Fixture Schemes and generate Specifications for Production Equipment.

* Conduct Packaging Studies for the storage and presentation of parts line side.

* Design scalable 2D Cell Layouts that adopt Lean Manufacturing principles.

* Establish the Installation and Service requirements of the Production Equipment.

* Provide training and assistance to Build Technicians and Graduates.

* Conduct Equipment Supplier Appraisals, place Enquiries and generate RFQ’s.

* Prepare Budgetary documentation to assist with Sales Proposals and the management of Project Funding.

* Generate Technical Justifications for expenditure.

* Raise Purchase Requisitions and Coordinate SE Project Meetings.

* Coordinate the commissioning of Production Equipment and generate supporting documentation such as Installation Check Lists, Fault Logs, Testing Requirements and Sign-off.

* Conduct Health & Safety Risk Assessments.

* Generate Manufacturing Engineering Procedures and Work Instructions to support Accreditation to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

Core Responsibilities (Commercial)

* Calculate Planned Takt Time vs Actual Cycle Time.

* Calculate the number of Operators required and the associated direct Labour Costs.

* Calculate capital investment costs dependant on the Manufacturing Strategy.

* Contribute to Sales Proposals for quotation purposes.

Training & Education

* Ability to use industry standard CAD software to interrogate models supplied.

* IT literate (competent user of MS products e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.).

* Engineering Degree or equivalent.

PROJECT ENGINEER

The Opportunity

Set very much within a new start environment, this role will be an excellent progression for a project engineer who already has a foundational understanding in how a product is developed from idea to manufacture.  You will have a broad range of capability with high levels of job variation from product and process research through to manufacturing cell implementation. You will be managing smaller projects within a supportive structure while working directly with customers to understand their requirements. Working as part of a very forward thinking small engineering team, you will be a strong team player with a keen interest in manufacturing and assembly processes together with the project documentation involved.

Objectives & key activities

  • Lead engineering support mechanism to technology developers with innovative electrical, mechanical and electromechanical products
  • Support the identification of technology applications within various market sectors
  • Ensure the transition of technologies into products through application of TRL/MRL levels, engineering best practice and APQP principles
  • Manage projects through Engineering department ensuring on time delivery and within budget through ‘hands-on’ involvement
  • Interface and lead Innovate UK projects as the point of contact through engineering and technical support while working closely with all stakeholders to ensure project scope is clearly defined and communicated

Other Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of engineering processes and documentation
  • Support the establishment of manufacturing engineering processes that meet the expectations of OEM customers
